Bruce Mulcahy | West Yorkshire
Bruce Mulcahy was born in Dewsbury and became interested in painting at an early age. He gained an honours degree in Fine Art at University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1978 - receiving his first commission later that year - and he began painting full-time shortly afterwards.
Inspired by painters who have worked outdoors from the Impressionists onwards, all Bruce’s work is produced en plein air. The practical difficulties of working outdoors in all seasons are put to one side as the important thing for him is to react directly to the landscape and the particular colours, textures and light of the moment.
Bruce has exhibited in numerous galleries across the country, including The Mall Galleries, London; Manchester Academy of Fine Arts; House of Commons; and Leeds City Art Gallery. His work was selected for the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in 2001 and 2002.
His paintings are held in collections throughout the UK and in fourteen other countries to date, including New Zealand, USA, Canada and Japan.
Bruce is a member of several art societies including Dewsbury Arts Group, Huddersfield Arts Society, the Fylingdales Group of Artists.
In 2007 he was elected a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, and in 2014 became Hon. Treasurer, one of the four Officers of the RSMA.
